For New Families - Under Construction

We go over a lot of information during "Puppy Pick-up". Understandably, it's hard to remember every last detail during all the excitement. We began this page as a refernce for new owners. Also, sometimes things get misplaced. Click here - Going Home Instructions - for a pdf copy of the original hand out that was included in your puppy kit.
Food Information:
We recommend and feed Purina line of products. Below is a picture of the dog food your puppy is currently eating. Please click on the picture below for more information on the nutritional content.
Large Breed Puppy
  • Your new puppy is used to eating 3 times a day. By six months of age, feeding can be cut to twice a day. Your veterinarian is the best source of advice about your puppy’s diet, so please consult him/her when making any changes.

  • He/she is eating Purina One dry Large Breed puppy food, softened with warm water. The softening of the food is optional, but we recommend that you gradually decrease softening the food over a period of several days. Hint: the warmer the water, the faster the food softens. We have provided a sample bag with your Puppy Kit.

Preparing for puppy:

Below is a list of recommended items you should have prior to bringing your puppy home:

- Dog nail clippers

- Puppy shampoo

- Adjustable collar (Nylon or leather)

- Chain training collar

- Food and Water Bowls (Stainless steel)

- Food (see above - Purina Pro Plan, Large Breed Puppy Formula)

- Leash (We recommend getting two for training purposes. Either regular nylon or leather lead: one about 3 to 4 feet in length, and one 6-8 feet in length)

- Full size crate with divider panel (For "Large Breed," or dog up to "75-80 pounds")

- Bedding for crate (We recommend using material that is easily washable and having extras on hand "just in case"). We also suggest you bring a bedding item with you on "Pick-Up Day" - we can rub the item down with familiar scents to ease your puppy's transition.

- Bitter Apple or Bitter End spray (Chewing deterrent to protect your furniture, house plants, shoes, etc from your dog.)

- Toys (Various textures and purposes; something fun for retrieving/playing fetch in the yard, plenty of strong, durable toys for chewing and general play, a “Kong” is a strong recommnedation.)
